The Polymer Competence Centre Halle-Merseburg bundle polymer specific competences and resources of the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg and of the University of Applied Sciences Merseburg (FH) and is networked with the Network of expertise for applied and transfer oriented research (KAT) at the four Universities in Saxony-Anhalt, regional and sectoral research facilities and networkes (POLYKUM e.V. assocation for the promotion of the polymer development and polymer technic Central Germany, Fraunhofer Institut for Mechanics of Materials and Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Polymer Research Golm, Cluster Chemical/Polymer Central Germany) as well as companies in the polymer producing and manufacturing industrie.

The KKZ realized basic research as well as applied research as well as product and technique development.

Key research areas in Applied Polymer Science

  • Development of other materials by utilization of blend and composite technology focusing of nanostructured polymer systems and reactive compounding

  • Further development in polymer processing, such as rapid prototyping with selective laser sintering and FDM-technique (Fused Deposition Modeling) and continuous molding processes, such as direct compound-/ multi layer extrusion for thin foil, slabs or profiles.

  • Design and modification of polymer processing directed towards generation of bio-polymer engineering materials.

  • Development of new test methods for processing, monitoring and conditioning, with online characterisation of polymer materials.
